It's Poops and Poms

It's poops comparison time! 

I notice Charcoal's poops on a small side and does not eat much hays. Maybe she's stressed in the new environment, maybe she's not used to a hay diet. 

Today in her 2nd day with us, her hay intake seems more. Feeding her OWB hays mixed with Mountain grass mainly is my plan for her. 

Just when I thought Charcoal's poop is smaller, then I realized Koogle ain't much larger...only slightly. Hmmmm..... However both Charcoal and Koogle are eating and drinking well. Again, continue to monitor their health progress. 

Then a dear friend home baked us some hay cakes with leftover hays and banana. My 4 furkids all love it!

Welcome Charcoal

Welcome Charcoal to my household!

I waited for you a good one year. I fell in love with rabbits when I first saw you one year ago. You were meek and very docile. 

When I first saw you, you were cuddling and resting on a towel. I still keep this picture of you even till today. 

I got the cage and carrier albeit second handed but I got them for you and set up readily to welcome you. I was so ready for you that I even name you, Charcoal! 

But you weren't able to be adopted. So I went to SPCA and Cotton was adopted. As the saying goes, the rest is history........

Then one day, I was told I might be able to get now. Instantly, I asked for you if you are still available. You do not know how exhilarated I was when I was told and verified you can be collected anytime. So I applied work off immediately on the same day (15-Jan-2015 at about 1500hrs), I went down and took you home. 

On our way home, the journey was rough in the bus because we could not get a cab for past 30mins on the road or even dialing for one! 

The original intended recipient finally get to use the cage and carrier too! 

While quarantine her, I am also litter training her at the same time. 

There was so little basic information about Charcoal like gender, sterilization status, micro chip status or age. When I collected her, I have a hard time ascertain her gender. Yes, you should got the hint - it's a doe! (Update: she's a ND with silver marten coated)

Her dewlap finally appeared after sometime Hahahhaha. I felt her nipples but later realized bucks also have nipples. I tried to look for any penis and found none. She being a doe means half a battle won to bond her with Cotton and Koogle. 

If Charcoal is a buck, I would try to bond too but if bonding fails - bromance does not seems much of a preference to Cotton's liking, then rehoming will be the last resort. 

Let pray for another half battle to be won! 

Naughty Cotton Got Jailed

Cotton began to misbehave when Uncle Koogle discharged home. On the 2 nights of Uncle Koogle's return, he peed at Uncle Koogle's pen not once, not twice but thrice! 

On 3rd day of the return, he jumped onto our sofa which he did not jump previously as he's afraid of heights. And he bit my mouse scroll rubber! 

And he deflat his Super Me carnival rabbit! 

So he's jailed for 2 days straight. 

Was Cotton remorse for what he did? Hmmmm I don't really think so as he flopped on his 2nd day of jail time! 

Today is Christmas Eve so we decided to give him some freedom. At the same time, Uncle Koogle also has his pen expanded a little as he did not stray pee since returning for 3 days. 

Cotton, we are watching you now.

Pee Pad, Dry Pet

I have always been using Pet Sheet (left in picture with a dog lying down) from my nearby pet shop, My Pet Passion. The shop owners are a friendly young couple whom we acquainted due to my frequent visitation and so they always give me a very good price. They always charge me $20 for a pack of Pet Sheet (be it 45 x 35 cm size for 100 sheets version or be it 45 x 60 cm for 50 sheets size version)

Recently, I bought another brand of pee pad, Dry Pet. It costs me $23 (size S: 40 X 60 cm for 50 sheets) and I bought from the AlienPet blog shop. I bought Dry Pet as it was advertised on some websites that this pee pad can absorb 200x more time an average pee pad. Hence, I just need to try to know! 

Purely based on their appearance, their inner absorbent surface are both criss-crossed patterned and feel similarly slim. The absorbent surface also felt similarly for both. 

At the non absorbent side, both are plastic sheet which gives the waterproofing function. Again, except for the color, the material just felt somewhat similar. What amazes me for Dry Pet is each sheet comes with 2 strips of adhesive tape at the plastic side backing. Somewhat, it reminds me of ladies sanitary pads! Hahahhahaha the adhesive is useful to secure the pee pad in place. However, due to the way my litter box is setup, with or without the adhesive function does not matter for me.  

Basically both pee pads are able to covered my trays well. Pet Sheet has more coverage at both the length due to the additional 5cm measurement. 

I did not take pictures of the 2 trays in their after-use by my boys simply because they do not use pee and poop equally for both trays. 

I am tempted to perform an absorbency test akin to the ladies napkins advertisement in the 90s - pour an equal amount of colored water into the 2 pee pads, but decided not to waste my pee pads. 

So what I did was to determine the use of the pee pad on different days. As I know my boys have a tendency to pee and poops mostly on the right tray so the pee pad are used in the right tray on separate days of course. 

And the results......

The absorbency for both Pet Sheet and Dry Pet based on my observation, somewhat similar. The soiled (after an overnight use) picture though is using Pet Sheet, the same soiled appearance also seen in using the Dry Pet. Hence I'm showing a soiled picture merely for illustration purposes. Note that there was hays in the litter tray was because these were leftover stalky hays which my boys dislike. I am recycling the unwanted hays as another layer of absorbent 

Ok, absorbency liquid power are similar but not the scent absorbency. After the overnight use of Dry Pet, their urine odor (akin to human toilet smell) was very obvious. It was so strong that I had to change by the mid morning (thank God it was a weekend). Pet Sheet, however, does not have this issue. The urine odor is pretty mild to nil after the overnight use of it. 

So the conclusion? For more value for $$$ and little or no urine odor issue, I'll stick to Pet Sheet for now.

I always think their sleeping positions in the 2 trays reminds me of Chinese prayers Sheng Jiao. 

And this means it's a Yes prayer! With Koogle as the upright and Cotton as the flip. Hahahaha
